On the 24th, Shine-On Biomedical, a regenerative medicine company, announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Singapore's ESCO Aster, a clinical-grade exosome manufacturer. The agreement includes the licensing of Shine-On's HLA-G-targeted exosome drug delivery platform and a collaboration for product development. The partnership aims to accelerate the development of exosome-based technologies for loading anti-cancer drugs, creating innovative cancer treatments that are more effective and have fewer side effects, addressing the challenges of severe chemotherapy side effects and poor quality of life for cancer patients.
Under the terms of the agreement, Shine-On will receive NT$150 million in upfront and milestone payments, as well as 5% royalty revenue on product sales. According to market research firms Grand View Research and Value Market Research, the global human cancer drug market is estimated to be worth $120 billion to $157.61 billion in 2023, while the global pet cancer drug market is projected to reach $20 billion. With a 20-year licensing period and 5% royalty revenue per product annually, this collaboration is expected to generate significant long-term revenue for Shine-On.
Chiu-Ching Huang, Chairman of Shine-On Biomedical, stated that this licensing agreement and product development MOU marks a milestone for Taiwan's exosome technology in collaborating with global industry leaders. It will accelerate the introduction of innovative and differentiated exosome-based cancer therapeutics to the international market, providing new, safe, and effective treatment options for cancer patients worldwide.
Shine-On highlighted that it has been recognized as one of the world's top ten exosome developers by an internationally renowned database company. Its HLA-G-targeted exosome drug delivery platform, SOB100, has been successfully developed and is preparing for submission to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for clinical trials.
ESCO Aster, a global leader in exosome and stem cell-related product manufacturing, brings its production expertise and international sales channels to the collaboration. According to the MOU, Shine-On will leverage its strengths in product development, while ESCO will focus on manufacturing and global distribution. The partnership will also expand to include the development of exosome-based cancer drugs for animals, aiming to capture a share of the global pet oncology market.
