Bi-khim Louise Hsiao: Integrating New Technologies in Healthcare to Care for Different PopulationsDec 08, 2024

On December 7, Vice President Bi-khim Louise Hsiao visited the "Taiwan Medical Technology Expo" to show her support for the development of Taiwan's medical technology industry. During her visit to the Tzu Chi Medical Center in Hualien, she shared that she had previously benefited from traditional Chinese medicine developed by Tzu Chi while in the United States. She emphasized that in the future, the integration of new technologies in healthcare will create more opportunities, especially the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI), which can help care for patients from diverse populations.

Hsiao visited 11 exhibition booths, including those of AUO, National Taiwan University Hospital, Taipei Medical University, Tzu Chi Medical Center, Chi Mei Medical Center, Taipei Municipal Gan-Dau Hospital, the Military Health System, Kaohsiung Medical University, Inventec Appliances, Shin Kong Wu Ho-Su Memorial Hospital, and Chang Gung Medical System. She stayed for about 1 hour and 10 minutes.

At the Tzu Chi Medical Center booth, they showcased AI-generated voice-based health education in four languages, which helps reduce the burden on nursing staff. AUO introduced their exclusive glasses-free 3D technology, providing real-time 3D solutions for robotic surgery and enabling telemedicine between hospitals.

Additionally, Taipei Medical University introduced generative AI technology in collaboration with Google Cloud. Previously, nurse shift handovers took 6 to 11 minutes, but now the process can be completed in just 10 seconds. Inventec Appliances displayed a smart infusion system, already implemented at National Taiwan University Hospital, which reduces the infusion time from 70 seconds to just 30 seconds.
