Middle Eastern Buyers Arrive at Healthcare Expo Taiwan: Spotlight on Smart Healthcare, Precision Medicine, and All-Age HealthNov 25, 2024

The Healthcare Expo Taiwan, showcasing cutting-edge medical technologies, is set to open on December 5, welcoming major buyers from the Middle East. This year’s event highlights three main themes: Smart Healthcare, Precision Medicine, and All-Age Health. The expo is expected to attract prominent Middle Eastern medical distributors to Taiwan for collaboration discussions, potentially generating business opportunities worth billions of NT dollars.

As the largest event of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region, the Healthcare Expo Taiwan will take place from December 5 to 8. According to the Institute for Biotechnology and Medicine Industry (IBMI), this year’s expo will draw over 2,000 international buyers, focusing on Taiwan’s expertise in smart healthcare, precision medicine, and all-age health. The event aims to foster collaborations between leading domestic technology, machinery, and biotech companies, paving the way for lucrative partnerships.

One of the expo's key highlights is the Middle East's rapidly expanding medical market, where digital healthcare upgrades are a critical trend. Notable participants include Qatar’s leading distributor Aamal Company, which holds exclusive agency rights for tens of thousands of products, and Al Khayyat Investments (AKI), the UAE’s largest medical distributor. These companies are interested in partnering with Taiwan on advanced technologies such as diagnostic imaging hardware/software, telemedicine platforms, cell storage systems, and cancer detection tools.

Since early November, the expo organizers have opened matchmaking sessions with local companies, including InnoCare Optoelectronic, Advantech, Quanta, Qisda, ASUS, Inventec, AUO Display Plus, and HIWIN, to explore opportunities in the Middle Eastern market.

The Healthcare Expo Taiwan stands out as the world’s first large-scale trade show integrating the complete healthcare industry ecosystem, spanning medical, electronics, ICT, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices. Centered around hospitals, this year’s expo emphasizes smart healthcare, precision medicine, and all-age health, divided into nine specialized zones.

In addition to Middle Eastern buyers, dozens of international healthcare groups and over 100 hospital directors from various countries are expected to attend. Looking ahead, IBMI plans to expand Taiwan's global presence by participating in international exhibitions starting next year to create more opportunities for international collaborations.

Among this year’s international buyers, Aamal Company is particularly focused on Taiwan’s smart healthcare solutions. Despite Qatar’s high per capita income, ranked fifth globally, the nation heavily relies on foreign healthcare resources due to chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular conditions, and cancer. Aamal’s visit to Taiwan aims to procure cutting-edge solutions in telemedicine and cancer diagnostics to enhance its market competitiveness.

Similarly, AKI, one of the UAE’s top three medical distribution channels, is a prominent buyer at the expo. According to Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs, the UAE ranks as the fourth-largest medical equipment market in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. With high per capita spending, the market is projected to grow at an annual rate of 8.4% over the next five years, reaching a size of USD 2 billion. However, limited domestic production capacity forces the region to depend heavily on imports.

AKI’s visit will focus on Taiwan’s innovative technologies in digital healthcare, cell storage, and cancer diagnostics. The company plans to engage with potential suppliers to diversify its product line and meet the region’s growing demand for advanced healthcare solutions.

For Taiwanese companies, partnering with AKI represents a valuable opportunity to enter the Middle Eastern market. Leveraging AKI’s extensive resources and networks, Taiwanese innovations can rapidly integrate into local healthcare systems, fostering shared growth and unlocking opportunities in emerging markets.
