Hermes Microvision's Subsidiary Heron Neutron Medical to Begin Trading on the Emerging Stock Market in Late NovemberNov 05, 2024

Hermes Microvision announced that its subsidiary, Heron Neutron Medical, has submitted the necessary documents for listing. Based on the timeline, it is expected to begin trading on the Emerging Stock Market in late November.

Founded in 2017 with investment from Hermes Microvision, Heron Neutron Medical's technology is based on accelerator-based boron neutron capture therapy (AB-BNCT) cancer treatment equipment, developed in collaboration with National Tsing Hua University and the Industrial Technology Research Institute. The company currently has a paid-in capital of NT$1.393 billion, with Chin-Yung Shu serving as Chairman and Shen Leo as General Manager. For the fiscal year 2024, the company reported revenue of NT$238,000, a pre-tax net loss of NT$126 million, and a loss of NT$1.18 per share.

Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) is a targeted radiation therapy. The principle involves delivering non-toxic boron-containing drugs to tumor cells, which absorb these drugs. When exposed to neutrons, the boron undergoes a nuclear reaction that releases highly damaging but localized alpha particles, providing a cellular-level radiation treatment that destroys cancer cells without harming surrounding tissues. This method combines the precision of targeted therapy with the effectiveness of radiation therapy.

Heron Neutron Medical’s AB-BNCT device officially received medical device approval in August this year and is expected to initiate clinical trials by the end of the year. The company is collaborating with a leading domestic CDMO pharmaceutical company to develop boron-containing drugs, such as BPA, for treating recurrent head and neck cancer. The goal is to complete trials and obtain drug approval by 2026. Additionally, research trials targeting other cancers, including meningioma, brain cancer, breast cancer, and lung cancer, will also begin. Upon completion, these treatments may be available for emergency medical use.
