As part of the Ministry of Health and Welfare's New Southbound Policy, Chang Gung Medical Foundation continues to foster cooperation with Malaysian medical institutions. In August, Wen Jin Cherng, Chairperson of the Chang Gung Medical Foundation Executive Committee, led a delegation to Malaysia, where they signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with both the University of Malaya (UM) and Sunway Medical Centre, further deepening medical cooperation between the parties.
Wen Jin Cherng stated that since 2019, Chang Gung Medical Foundation has actively participated in the New Southbound Policy and has been working closely with Malaysia for several years. The recent renewal of the MOU with the University of Malaya, as well as the signing of a new MOU with Sunway Medical Centre, aims to establish a closer partnership in various fields, including medical technology exchange, professional training, medical research collaboration, and the development of international patient referral services, thus promoting innovation and progress in medical technology.
The signing ceremony between Chang Gung Medical Foundation and the University of Malaya was held on August 23 at the university, with Wen Jin Cherng and UM’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Noor Azuan Abu Osman, representing both sides. On August 24, the delegation proceeded to Sunway Medical Centre, where Wen Jin Cherng and Dr. Khoo Chow Huat, General Manager of Hospital and Medical Operations at Sunway Medical Centre, signed the MOU on behalf of their respective institutions.
Wen Jin Cherng emphasized that the University of Malaya and its affiliated medical center have a rich history and are globally recognized as leading academic and national medical institutions. Their dedication to cultivating top medical professionals, advancing medical research, and serving the community aligns perfectly with the mission of Chang Gung Medical Foundation, creating a foundation for long-term collaboration. Meanwhile, Sunway Medical Centre, established in 1999, is the largest private healthcare institution in Malaysia. Known for its advanced medical equipment, modern facilities, and professional healthcare team, it not only serves local patients but also attracts international patients from around the world, maintaining close interactions with Chang Gung over the years.
Dr. See-Tong Pang, Chairman of Chang Gung International Healthcare, mentioned that Chang Gung and the University of Malaya co-hosted the seminar titled “Advanced Medical Technology: Current Status and Future Prospects.” Experts from Chang Gung Medical Foundation shared cutting-edge medical technologies, including Da Vinci robotic surgery, proton therapy, artificial intelligence (AI) applications, and immunotherapy, showcasing Taiwan's medical innovations. The University of Malaya also arranged for several professors to present their latest academic research. Over 250 top Malaysian medical experts attended both in-person and virtually, discussing the latest applications and future directions of medical technology, laying the groundwork for further collaboration opportunities.
Chang Gung’s delegation also invited nine Taiwanese companies to join the event, showcasing their latest medical products to promote technical exchange and cooperation in medical devices between Taiwan and Malaysia. Notably, The One Medical Devices Co., Ltd. donated an imaging laryngoscope to the University of Malaya Medical Centre, aiming to foster deeper future collaborations through this tangible support. The nine participating companies included Chang Gung Medical Technology, Formosa Biomedical Technology, Wistron Medical Technology, EBM Technologies, Rehabotics Medical Technology, Insight Medical Solutions, Inventec Appliances Corp, The One Medical Devices Co., Ltd., and Taiwan Bio Therapeutics.
Wen Jin Cherng emphasized that as one of Taiwan's leading medical institutions, Chang Gung Medical Foundation is committed to advancing medical technology and actively participating in international collaborations. Moving forward, Chang Gung will continue to deepen its presence in Malaysia, expanding the scope of cooperation, assisting Taiwan's healthcare industry and medical device manufacturers in entering the Malaysian market, and driving the ongoing progress of the medical industry across the Asia-Pacific region.
