Taiwan's inaugural Healthy Ageing Tech Show opened grandly today (2nd) at the Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1. Chang Gung Memorial Hospital's exhibit, located at Booth 309 in Zone C on the first floor, features three major areas: "Health Protection," "Innovative Medical Care," and "Smart Technology." The exhibition includes 14 thematic features, covering the hospital's branches in Linkou, Keelung, Taoyuan, Yunlin, Chiayi, Kaohsiung, Tucheng, and Fengshan, as well as the Longevity Village, Evergreen Nursing Home, Chang Gung Clinic, and Chang Gung Biotechnology Company, showcasing their comprehensive achievements in elderly health care.
In the "Health Protection" theme area, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital presents a holistic view of elderly health care and active aging initiatives, including efforts to promote healthy aging communities across various counties in Taiwan. For preventive care, the hospital's internationally aligned Precision Medicine Testing Center offers "Precision Gene Testing" kits for obesity genes, alcohol metabolism genes, dementia genes, and more. These tests help individuals understand their genetic makeup, allowing them to make lifestyle changes early to improve their quality of life. The exhibition also features devices to measure body fat percentage, muscle mass, and basal metabolic rate, helping visitors understand their metabolic status. Additionally, cancer markers, cardiovascular disease screening, liver and kidney function tests, and skin care principles suitable for the elderly are displayed, emphasizing preventive medicine to maintain health and beauty.
Achieving "healthy aging" is a crucial goal in geriatric medicine as society ages. With advancing age, muscle strength in the elderly decreases by 3% to 5% annually, affecting daily activities and quality of life. Appropriate exercise is vital for improving the quality of life for the elderly, as it boosts immunity, prevents infections, and reduces the risk of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Various exercises, particularly resistance training, aerobic exercise, and balance training, have been proven effective in treating sarcopenia. However, exercise intensity and frequency must be adjusted based on the individual's physical and exercise condition, creating a precise, personalized exercise prescription. The exhibit introduces exercise regimens suitable for the elderly and demonstrates how exercise, diet, and nutrition can effectively increase muscle strength. The exhibition also features the smart exercise system developed by the Chang Gung system, currently in use at the rehabilitation department of Keelung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, showcasing its practical outcomes.
Additionally, the Chang Gung Sports Medicine Center at Taoyuan Chang Gung Memorial Hospital offers integrated services from orthopedic, rehabilitation, and traditional Chinese medicine teams. It includes an outpatient clinic and exercise training area equipped with advanced detection and training facilities for weight training, cardiopulmonary aerobic training, stretching, and relaxation. The center provides comprehensive cross-disciplinary exercise care services to the public and accurately detects and appropriately trains for sarcopenia.
