On July 31, Chi Mei Medical Center and AstraZeneca Taiwan Ltd. (Taiwan AZ) held a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony to initiate a clinical trial collaboration. The MOU was signed by Dr. Hung-Jung Lin, Superintendent of Chi Mei Medical Center; Dr. Soon-Cen Huang, Superintendent of Chi Mei Hospital Liuying; Dr. Willy Chou, Superintendent of Chi Mei Hospital Chiali; and Vita Chien, President of Taiwan AZ. Following the signing, a plaque presentation ceremony was also held.
Dr. Hung-Jung Lin highlighted that this collaboration will enhance the ability of their physicians to participate in new drug clinical trials, thereby strengthening their expertise in new treatment trends, technologies, and medications. This will enable the provision of cutting-edge medical care and diagnostic quality to patients. Chi Mei Medical Center, with nearly 2,600 beds and approximately 9,500 outpatient visits daily, is leveraging scientific AI innovations this year to revolutionize disease prevention and treatment. The clinical trial collaboration with Taiwan AZ, which boasts a robust clinical trial team, will encompass several new clinical trials in hematology, oncology, and respiratory treatment. Dr. Lin expressed hope that this collaboration will benefit more patients and lay a solid foundation for future in-depth cooperation.
Dr. Lin emphasized that Chi Mei Medical Center adheres to the highest international standards in clinical trials, ensuring scientific integrity, reliability, and patient safety. The Yongkang Chi Mei Hospital houses advanced clinical research facilities and has a professional research team capable of effectively managing and conducting various clinical trials. Chi Mei Medical Center continuously improves and optimizes its clinical trial processes to ensure data accuracy and completeness. These advantages make it a preferred partner for international pharmaceutical companies conducting clinical trials, attracting more medical resources to benefit patients.
Over the years, Chi Mei Medical Center and Taiwan AZ have conducted over 20 cancer new drug trials, including several that have changed cancer treatment guidelines, yielding significant academic and clinical results.
Dr. Soon-Cen Huang noted that over the past decade, Chi Mei Hospital Liuying has deeply engaged in cancer new drug clinical trials. The quality and quantity of cases included in the trials have been highly recognized by collaborating pharmaceutical companies. The hospital has also successfully passed audits by the TFDA and the US FDA with nearly flawless results.
Dr. Willy Chou stated that Chi Mei Hospital Chiali is dedicated to providing a solid foundation and technical support for academic research. The MOU collaboration with Taiwan AZ not only brings valuable drug resources and technical support but also elevates the hospital's academic research level, promoting overall progress in the medical field and offering patients more innovative treatment options.
In addition to expressing gratitude and welcome to Taiwan AZ, Dr. Lin acknowledged Taiwan AZ's patient-centered approach and active involvement in clinical trials. Currently, all hospitals within the Chi Mei Medical Center system are qualified to conduct clinical trials, with complete hardware facilities, professional personnel, and established standard operating procedures and regulations. Dr. Lin looks forward to leveraging Chi Mei Medical Center's strengths in research and clinical practice, collaborating with Taiwan AZ to secure more medical resources and align with international standards.
