Synmosa Biopharma Obtains Exclusive Distribution and Marketing Rights for Celltrion Healthcare's Drugs in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and MacauJul 12, 2024

Synmosa Biopharma announced on the 10th that it has signed an agency distribution cooperation agreement with Hasten Biopharmaceuticals Holding (Hasten Bio) affiliate HP Bidco 2 Limited in early July. Under this agreement, Synmosa Biopharma will be fully responsible for the agency distribution and marketing promotion of specific product groups from the original Celltrion Healthcare in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.

The two parties expect to complete the transfer of approximately 20 drug licenses, covering treatments for diabetes, hypertension, and insomnia, within six months. HP Bidco 2 Limited will be responsible for supplying the related products to Synmosa Biopharma from overseas.

Recently, Hasten Bio announced the successful acquisition of Celltrion Healthcare's primary healthcare product portfolio in eight countries and regions across the Asia-Pacific. According to the latest statistics from the National Health Insurance Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare, the number of patients seeking medical treatment for diabetes increased from 2,253,579 in 2018 to 2,568,409 in 2022, representing a 14% increase over four years.

At the same time, hypertension is becoming increasingly severe. Based on the "Survey on the Nutritional and Health Status of the People," approximately 5.29 million people in Taiwan had hypertension in 2020. Cardiovascular diseases caused by hypertension, such as heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, and hypertensive diseases, ranked 2nd, 5th, and 7th, respectively, among the top ten causes of death in 2022, with both mortality rates and rankings on the rise.

Regarding insomnia, according to a 2019 report by the Health Promotion Administration, the prevalence of insomnia symptoms among Taiwanese adults is 23.5%, with chronic insomnia (symptoms lasting more than three months) at 6.7%. The prevalence of chronic insomnia is higher in women than in men and increases with age.

These statistics indicate that diabetes, hypertension, and insomnia have become major health issues that modern people urgently need to overcome and have considerable market potential. According to 2023 IQVIA sales data, the annual market value of this product group in Taiwan and Hong Kong is approximately 25 million USD.

Additionally, to maintain market stability, Synmosa Biopharma will directly offer related job opportunities to the original Celltrion business and marketing personnel responsible for this product group, ensuring continuous promotion and sales through medical channels, providing healthcare professionals and the public with more medication choices, and enhancing public health benefits.

Following its growth momentum of "self-growth, strategic alliances, and continuous mergers and acquisitions," Synmosa Biopharma has once again successfully formed a strategic alliance with a major international pharmaceutical company. This alliance will bring in original prescription drugs in the fields of hypertension, diabetes, and insomnia, significantly enhancing Synmosa Biopharma's competitiveness in hospital and clinic channels. This synergy with its niche drugs will drive overall sales growth and bring strong profit growth momentum.
