Diamond BioFund and French biotech venture capital fund AdBio Partners have announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to share investments in high-tech biotech projects. Chairman Lu Kongming stated that the two parties will establish a collaborative investment platform to bring Taiwan's innovative technologies and products to Europe, while also integrating European technologies and companies into the Asian market.
This marks Diamond BioFund's second international venture capital collaboration, following last year's partnership with Japan's Daiwa Corporate Investment (DCI Partners) to create cross-border investment opportunities.
Lu Kongming explained that the collaboration with Daiwa focuses on flagship investments in cell therapy, nucleic acid drugs, and regenerative medicine. The alliance with AdBio Partners aims to expand and increase investment opportunities in the biotech and medical industries of both Europe and Taiwan.
AdBio Partners, headquartered in Paris, France, was spun off from the renowned UK-based Advent Life Sciences fund. It primarily invests in early-stage biotech companies in Europe with market potential and maintains long-term, close relationships with leading European academic and research institutions such as the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm). Successful exits include Gamut Cell Therapeutics, a gene therapy company for eye diseases, and SynHelix, a DNA synthesis technology company, which were acquired by SparingVision and Univercells in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
Lu Kongming highlighted that Europe is the second-largest healthcare market in the world, with annual healthcare expenditures totaling approximately 1.5 trillion euros, accounting for nearly 20% of the global healthcare market. Through the strategic alliance with AdBio, Diamond BioFund aims to create a collaborative investment platform to assist both parties' investment portfolios in expanding their operations in Europe and Asia. This platform will facilitate the introduction of Taiwan's innovative technologies and products to Europe and connect European technologies and companies with the Asian market.
Alain Huriez, Chairman and Managing Partner of AdBio Partners, emphasized that Taiwan's rapidly growing and highly promising ecosystem in innovative biotechnology will benefit significantly from this MOU. The partnership with Diamond BioFund is expected to foster closer collaboration between biotech companies in Taiwan and Europe.
