The growing demand for personalized health management is accelerating the global smartwatch market's growth. ASUS, a brand that has been in this field for nearly a decade, officially launched its new generation smart health watch, the ASUS Vivowatch 6, on June 27. With more comprehensive health data measurement, analysis, and newly introduced features such as location tracking and fall detection, ASUS aims to capture opportunities in the personal health smart wearables market.
According to analysis by research firm Canalys, the global personal wearable device market, including smart bands, basic watches, and smartwatches, experienced a decline in 2022 due to slowing demand after the peak of the pandemic. However, it has returned to positive growth since last year, with total shipments rising to over 185 million units. This year, it's expected to further increase to 194 million units, with next year's growth rate projected to exceed 10%, reaching a peak of over 214 million units.
Smartwatches, which incorporate more sensors for basic physiological measurement and tracking functions, and interact with personal smartphone devices and cloud services through apps, are estimated to see a 4% year-on-year increase in global shipments this year, rebounding to 72 million units. Next year, a 15% surge is expected, potentially reaching 83 million units.
Canalys observes that the growing demand for personalized healthcare solutions has raised consumer expectations for basic measurement data, tracking, and analysis functions provided by wearable smart devices. This not only drives the shipment volume and penetration rate of smartwatches, which will steadily increase in the coming years, but also prompts related brand manufacturers to more actively integrate advanced sensors and introduce better AI algorithms to enhance product add-on services.
ASUS, leveraging its advantage as the first to obtain blood pressure medical device software certification from Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare, along with its continuously optimized ASUS HealthConnect App that meets international medical standards, continues to expand in the smart health watch market with "100% self-developed technology". Their new product, ASUS VivoWatch 6, is first launched in the Taiwan market.
ASUS VivoWatch 6 features two sets of proprietary medical-grade electrical and optical PPG sensors, along with a newly added bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) sensor. Users can conveniently measure body composition data such as body fat, water content, skeletal muscle, and basal metabolic rate by lightly touching the watch body and frame with their thumb and index finger. Other basic measurements such as blood pressure, ECG, skin temperature, blood oxygen monitoring, sleep tracking, and stress analysis are also included.
ASUS has introduced three new features for the first time, including "Seek Help", "Fall Detection", and "Care Track", further enhancing its smart health watch product line's assistance and tracking capabilities in emergency situations. These additions are expected to help expand its target user base and boost overall shipment momentum.
