Enimmune and Unicocell join forces to capture exosome market opportunitiesJun 26, 2024

Enimmune signed an agreement with Unicocell Biotechnology on June 25, partnering to develop exosome-based cosmetic products and further expand into the field of regenerative medicine. General Manager Che-Wei Chang stated that they will initially target Vietnam and Southeast Asian countries, where they already have a cooperation foundation, aiming to capture opportunities among the top-tier consumer segment.

Chang pointed out that Enimmune has three major product lines: vaccines, medical device rapid tests, and cosmetics. In the cosmetics line, Enimmune selects top-tier products, including injectable botulinum toxin and exosome-based skincare products developed in collaboration with Unicocell.

Unicocell Biotechnology specializes in developing regenerative medicine products with a comprehensive anti-aging product line. Besides exosome-based skincare products, their stem cell therapies for knee osteoarthritis and chronic kidney disease have already entered phase III and phase II clinical trials, respectively. The initial collaboration will leverage Enimmune's partnership channels in Vietnam to introduce Taiwan's high-quality exosome-based skincare products to Southeast Asia's top-tier consumer market. Future plans may include further cooperation to promote regenerative medicine products for anti-aging and chronic diseases worldwide.

Unicocell Biotechnology, listed on the Innovation Board in May this year, focuses on developing and applying stem cell technology. They aim to collaborate with domestic and international biomedical research units to jointly develop new human stem cell drugs and stem cell technology applications. As exosomes are derivatives of stem cells and have been proven to have anti-aging and activating effects, they are seen as a future trend in cosmetic product development. Starting July, Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration will adopt a case-by-case review approach, lifting the ban on using human-derived cells and tissues in skincare product development. This makes Taiwan, following Japan and South Korea, a country that conditionally allows exosome-based cosmetic products.

Chang added that since the launch of Enimmune's enterovirus vaccine in 2023, production and sales in Taiwan have shown steady growth. Furthermore, considering the high demand for anti-aging products, Enimmune is strategically positioning itself in the market for biological agents, which have higher entry barriers. They are establishing a specialized biological agent marketing team and strengthening their advanced biological product line.
