Amengine, a subsidiary of Ennostar, announced yesterday (13th) the successful development of a medical software application that utilizes smartphone cameras for heart rate variability (HRV) analysis. Following clinical trials, the software demonstrated over 95% consistency with electrocardiograms (ECG) and has received a medical device license from the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
According to the National Health Insurance Administration, 2.8 million people seek medical treatment for mental illnesses annually. However, due to societal stigma and a general lack of self-awareness among patients, the actual number of individuals with mental health issues may be higher. Amengine highlighted that numerous studies have shown HRV analysis to be a valuable indicator for assessing mental and physical health, prompting the development of the "Heart Rate Variability Analysis Software."
Amengine explained that this software does not require any external hardware. Users simply need to lightly touch their finger to the phone’s camera and remain still for about five minutes to obtain results with a 95% accuracy rate compared to an ECG. Additionally, the software can record HRV data from each measurement, aiding clinicians in formulating personalized treatment plans.
The company emphasized that the "Heart Rate Variability Analysis Software" has been approved by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, validating its reliability and clinical applicability. This medical-grade software operates on standard smartphones, eliminating the need for hospital or clinic visits for ECG measurements, thereby enhancing user convenience and the precision of medical treatments.
Beyond this newly certified medical software, Amengine is leveraging its expertise in optoelectronics and algorithms to actively develop functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) products. These non-invasive, radiation-free, and portable devices aim to measure cerebral oxygen levels, enabling early detection of mental illnesses, real-time monitoring of stroke rehabilitation, and providing support for medical treatments. The company aspires to introduce Taiwan’s first wearable fNIRS product.
