On May 27, AltruBio announced the successful completion of an oversubscribed Series B funding round, raising an impressive NT$7.25 billion (approximately USD$225 million) led by BVF Partners L.P. CEO Judy Chou stated that the funds will be utilized to advance the clinical development of their innovative immune checkpoint enhancer, ALTB-268, particularly for ulcerative colitis (UC).
Dr. Judy Chou highlighted that ALTB-268 is currently undergoing a Phase 2a clinical trial targeting UC patients who have not responded to existing biologic treatments, with results expected in the first half of next year. Additionally, AltruBio plans to initiate a global Phase 2b randomized, placebo-controlled trial for both treatment-naive and previously treated moderate-to-severe UC patients, with results anticipated in the second half of 2026.
Originally known as TainMed, AltruBio underwent a management restructuring in 2019, appointing former Roche Global Technical Operations President, Eric Yang, as Chairman, and Judy Chou, former Senior Vice President of Bayer Pharmaceuticals, as President and CEO. Headquartered in Redwood City, San Francisco Bay Area, AltruBio also operates a subsidiary in Taiwan, rebranded as AltruBio to signify its new direction.
