Genomics partners with Nonacus to tap into Asia-Pacific cancer early screening marketMay 20, 2024

Genomics has announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Nonacus to establish a mutually beneficial industrial cooperation model. Under this partnership, Genomics will provide advanced laboratories to serve as Nonacus’ testing collection centers in the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan, to jointly expand the medical testing service market.

According to the MOU, both parties have selected Nonacus series, which includes "GALEAS™ Tumor," "GALEAS™ Hereditary Plus," and "GALEAS™ Bladder," as the initial priority cooperation projects. Genomic Tree will provide state-of-the-art laboratories to assist with sample collection, sequencing, related testing services, and analysis reports, targeting the substantial cancer and genetic testing market.

A report by Global Information Inc. (GII) indicates that due to the rising incidence of cancer, advancements in genomic research technologies, and the growing trend of early screening and non-invasive detection and treatment, the global liquid biopsy market is projected to grow from $4.1 billion in 2022 to $12.3 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.4%.

Genomics General Manager, Chun-Chi Chiang, highlighted that APA’s latest generation of bladder cancer detection product, GALEAS™ Bladder, employs next-generation sequencing (NGS) to accurately diagnose using minimal urine samples. This method has the potential to replace the current invasive and costly cystoscopy, significantly reducing detection risks. The service has already been launched in the Japanese market, and Genomic Tree's laboratory in Taiwan will oversee sequencing services for various regions. Additionally, Genomic Tree will assist in promoting such innovative detection products, with the collaboration expected to positively impact the company’s operations.

Nonacus, headquartered at the Birmingham BioHub in the UK, leverages its proprietary GALEAS™ liquid biopsy platform to rapidly penetrate global markets, offering cost-effective comprehensive cancer early screening solutions, including hereditary cancer, early cancer detection and monitoring, and comprehensive cancer gene testing. Last year, Nonacus established its Asia-Pacific regional headquarters in Taiwan to introduce its innovative liquid biopsy testing platform and advanced cancer genomics testing.

Nonacus Chairman Po-wen Chang emphasized that the company, based in Taiwan, has successfully expanded into markets in Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, and Southeast Asia. The partnership with Genomic Tree will not only help reduce costs related to backend sample transportation, sequencing, and testing analysis but also accelerate regional business expansion, significantly enhancing Nonacus' brand awareness and market penetration.
