Founder of Powerchip Group, Frank Huang, Invests in Groundbreaking Pancreatic Cancer Medication, Spearheading Precision MedicineMar 07, 2024

Mr. Frank Huang, the founder of Powerchip Group, has made a significant investment in the precision medicine technology firm, Biogate Precision Medicine Corp.. Yesterday, Biogate Precision Medicine hosted a launch event for their pancreatic cancer medication. Frank Huang emphasized that BGX, an innovative drug independently developed by Biogate Precision Medicine, represents a pivotal advancement in global pancreatic cancer treatment. Over the next two months, the company intends to seek approval for Phase I clinical trials from the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

Frank Huang elaborated that BGX, a targeted biological therapy, is the culmination of three years of meticulous research and development. This medication functions by inhibiting intracellular signaling pathways to impede cell proliferation and metastasis. Promising experimental results have demonstrated its efficacy in curtailing the growth and dissemination of pancreatic cancer cells, thereby extending patient survival. BGX is poised to address stages II to IV pancreatic cancer, offering renewed hope to sufferers worldwide.

Frank Huang affirmed that BGX will undergo clinical trials in Taiwan initially, with the submission of Phase I trial applications to the Ministry of Health and Welfare slated for the forthcoming two months, followed by an application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Frank Huang underscored that Biogate Precision Medicine represents a collaborative investment between himself and Powerchip Group, amounting to a total investment of NT$1.7 billion, with no external fundraising undertaken thus far. As BGX progresses into human clinical trials, external funding will be actively pursued. Biogate Precision Medicine also intends to conduct an initial public offering by mid-year and secure listing on the stock exchange before year-end.

In his analysis, Frank Huang highlighted the global burden of pancreatic cancer, with half a million new cases diagnosed annually and over 3,000 cases in Taiwan alone. Pancreatic cancer remains the most lethal form of cancer, boasting the highest mortality rate among malignancies. According to the latest statistics from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States, the five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer with distant metastasis stands at a mere 3.2%. Current treatment modalities often involve a combination of paclitaxel and gemcitabine, accompanied by significant side effects.

Frank Huang expressed his commitment to securing compassionate use approval for BGX targeted therapy from the initiation of Phase I clinical trials, thereby facilitating expedited access to treatment for local pancreatic cancer patients.
