After taking over the government's New Southbound programme, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (CGMH), together with the Medical Excellence Taiwan (MET) and Taiwan's medtech companies, went to Malaysia to explore a new blue ocean for Taiwan's healthcare. CGMH and local organisations jointly organised a large-scale symposium on 26 August, focusing on the "smart hospital" and sharing of the results, including representatives from the Universiti Malaya, HMI Group, Gleneagles Hospital and Tung Shin Hospital, and companies from Taiwan. More than 300 attendees participated online and in-person. They explored how to assist more healthcare partners in Malaysia to build smart hospitals and improve patient satisfaction through the innovation of medical devices, information systems, and other tools, or digital transformation.
The 2023 Smart Hospital Seminar, was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Malaysia, with the attendance of distinguished guests, including: former Selangor Health and Welfare official, Dato' Dr Khalid Ibrahim; the Deputy Minister of Health of Welfare, Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi; Mr Yong Kai Ping, Chief Executive Officer, Selangor Information Technology & Digital Economy Corporation (SIDEC); Taiwan’s legislator and representatives from Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia.
In his speech, Dato Dr Khalid Ibrahim said that the Malaysian government has been actively introducing Health Information System (HIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in recent years, and has been leading the development of Digital Health through the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). They expected to learn from Taiwan's experience and solve the problem of highly overloaded healthcare workers more efficiently.
The morning session of the symposium was co-organised with the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) with 4 CPD credits, focusing on the clinical care side to share the ways in which smart healthcare can provide more treatments, while the afternoon session was devoted to the discussion of the development trend and implementation experience of smart hospitals. In the afternoon session, it invited Superintendent Kwo-Whie Lee from Yuanlin Christian Hospital, Superintendent Shih-Tien Hsu from Lanseed Hospital, to share the international trend of smart healthcare development and implementation experience, while Malaysia was represented by Ir. Dr. Karl Ng from MDEC, to share the direction of Malaysia's digital healthcare development.
In addition, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, together with the TAMC promoting Taiwan’s medicine and medtech products, to expand the important partners in Malaysia, including 14 Taiwanese companies in Penang TAMC on-site demonstration: Chang Gung Medical Technology (長庚醫學科技公司), Formosa Biomedical (台塑生醫), Advantech (研華科技), Wistron Medical Technology (緯創醫學科技), Rehabotics (富伯生醫科技), United Orthopaedics (聯合骨科), TaiwanBio Therapeutics (台寶生醫), Insight Medical Solutions (群曜醫電), Orient EuroPharma (友華生技), EBM Technologies (商之器), HIWIN (上銀科技), E Ink (元太科技), Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry Technology and Development Center (財團法人醫藥工業技術發展中心), China Medical University Hospital (中國醫藥大學附設醫院), Mayaminer (馬雅科技), Mikotek Information (永磐科技) and Far East Medical Electronics Technology (遠東醫電科技), also shared their product features and clinical application results on stage or on-site, which were well received by the attendees.
Furthermore, there were two other important signing ceremonies in the afternoon. Orient EuroPharma signed a contract for the application of a pharmaceutical licence by a local company, as well as the one between HMI Group and Lanseed Hospital on smart ward. There are many procurement contracts in the process of negotiation, which is a recognition of CGMH's efforts to facilitate the development of Taiwan’s medtech industry in Malaysia.
