Taiwanese pharmaceutical companies see robust demands for generic drugs amid supply disruptionsMar 01, 2023

International pharmaceutical companies have withdrawn their brand-name drugs from the Taiwan market, taking into account factors such as market size and unstable supply.

As the global drug shortage crisis persists, international pharmaceutical companies have been suffering from supply disruptions and have been reorganising their drug situation and adjusting their global layout one after another.

In the past, ADHD drugs were supplied by the international pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly, which announced its withdrawal from the Taiwanese market at the end of last year and expects its stock to be available only until the end of this quarter.

As a matter of fact, not only is the drug used for hyperactivity, but also the antibiotics used in pediatrics and for the treatment of mycobacteria, which cannot be supplied due to a shortage of stock by the original manufacturer, and Anxo Pharmaceutical Co. is the only pharmaceutical company in Taiwan that has the same ingredients and dosage form as the original manufacturer, it has recently felt the demand for transfer orders from medical institutions. Anxo has recently felt the demand for transfer orders from hospitals.

In addition, a drug developed by ASTRAZENECA UK LIMITED (AZ) for the treatment of arrhythmia, hypertension and migraine, has also quietly withdrawn from the Taiwanese market recently. Since the patent of the drug has expired, there are many generic drugs with the same ingredients on the market , among which Standard Chem & Pharm CO., LTD. is one of the main supply pharmaceutical companies.

The brand-name drug used for arrhythmia and hypertension has indeed been withdrawn from the Taiwan market recently, and yet it has been included in the health insurance for many years. According to Standard Chem & Pharm, that drug has indeed withdrawn from the Taiwan market recently. There are also many domestic pharmaceutical companies supplying drugs with the same ingredients.
