The epidemic has changed life and access to medical care, and pushed forward the development of telemedicine. According to Chee Ching, General Manager of Far EasTone Telecommunications Co, what is the killer application of 5G that everyone is talking about? Personally, she thinks the best application is smart healthcare.
Far EasTone signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Taiwan Community Hospital Association and Taiwan Medical Clinics Associations on 21 February to jointly launch the "5G Telemedicine 2.0" service. In the future, it will also be promoted to other overseas markets.
The 5G telemedicine platform developed by Far EasTone uses cloud-based subscriptions and volume billing, and can be used to make appointments, report to the doctor, call the doctor, visit the doctor online and make payments. In addition, the 5G telemedicine platform allows doctors to schedule appointments flexibly on the system, and people can also upload information to make appointments on their own, and automatically record videos for archiving.
Far EasTone emphasizes that its 5G telemedicine platform is the first in Taiwan to be certified by the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA), and has so far introduced 5G telemedicine services in 12 counties, 35 towns and 261 villages across the country. During the epidemic, Far EasTone has supported many hospitals to introduce video outpatient services in more than 20 specialties and served more than 31,000 people.

Chee Ching stressed that 5G telemedicine requires long-term promotion. 5G telemedicine 2.0 includes the addition of medical institutions, departments, equipment construction, consultancy, transmission, etc., all of which require long-term investment.
