Caliway Biopharmaceuticals to conduct phase II trial for CBL-514 treating Dercum's diseaseJan 16, 2023

Caliway Biopharmaceuticals announced that the phase II clinical trial of its new drug CBL-514 injection for the treatment of the rare disease Dercum's Disease (DD) has been completed the patient recruitment.

The trial with 12 patients is expected to be completed in April 2023, and clinical data will be collected in the third quarter of this year.

According to Caliway, Dercum's Disease is a rare disease in which multiple painful lipomas with abnormal accumulation of subcutaneous fat on the trunk and extremities are accompanied by spontaneous and severe pain in the area (painful lipomas), and the cause of the disease may be related to adipose tissue metabolism.

According to the Global Dercum's Disease Market Research Report, market research future 2017, the US market for Dercum's disease is estimated to be US$10.9 billion in 2019, representing 34% of the global market. The global market is estimated to be US$20.3 billion in 2028, based on an annual compound growth rate of 7.1%.
