TaiRx's new drug for inflammatory bowel disease to be licensed in 2023Nov 25, 2022

According to Dr. Du-Shieng Chien, President and CEO of TaiRx, their new drug has been successfully developed into a tablet and is expected to complete animal trials next December, and authorization will not be ruled out next year.

In addition, in order to expand its application, Zelnite, which is used to prevent and treat selenium deficiency, will also be made into a large-capacity 10cc and is expected to apply for a Taiwan drug license after the spring of next year.

TRX-105 is an old drug that was originally used in Europe for the treatment of rheumatic arthritis, but was extended to include IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) four to five years ago.

According to Dr. Chien, the advantage of TRX105 is that it is a targeted drug, which can release its effects in the large intestine, reduce mucosal damage, focus treatment, reduce side effects and reduce tablet size by 50%.

According to statistics, the global market for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is estimated to be US$27 billion in 2028, with the majority of patients being white, aged 17 to 27 and 40 to 45 years old.

In addition, the oral anti-cancer drug CVM-1118 has two major indications, namely neuroendocrine tumours and liver cancer combined with immunotherapy, both of which have entered phase II clinical trials. It is expected that 29 patients will be enrolled in the first quarter of next year, and after three months of treatment and observation, data will be announced in the middle of next year at the earliest.

As for neuroendocrine tumours, the target is to admit 36 patients, as the number of such patients is already relatively small.

As for Zelnite, which is used for the prevention and treatment of selenium deficiency, after discussions with the CDE, Zelnite was upgraded from a small volume of 2cc to 10cc, mainly for the treatment of patients with major diseases such as selenium deficiency caused by cancer, trauma, or those born with selenium deficiency.
