Kaohsiung Head and Neck Oncologic Group provides multipdicipline approach for head and neck cancer treatment since 1996. The head and neck reconstruction is cornerstone in the surgical intervention for head and neck cancer. Our head and neck reconstructive team usually serves for buildup of head and neck defect after major tumor ablation by using the most advanced technique and equipmnet.

The head and neck reconstructive center in Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital provides comprehensive approach for head and neck reconstructive surgery after head and neck tumor ablation for skin cancer, oral cancer, oropharyngeal cancer, hypopharyngeal cancer. Our outstanding head and neck reconstructive team consists of plastic surgeons, head and neck surgeons, rehabilitation physicians, clinical nurses, and administration staffs to serve the challenge task. We have experienced over 4,000 cases of head and neck microreconstruction surgery since 1996 and achieved excellent clinical outcomes. In addition, there are over 300 cases of free flap reconstruction for head and neck defect annually with over 96.8% of successful rate, less than 10% of complication rate and over 95% of patient's satisfactory rate. These clinical outcomes are compatible with those famous institues in USA and Japan. From 2000 till now, there are over 50 international fellows attached to this center in order to learn the most advanced and sophisticated techniques of head and neck reconstruction.

Notification
Due to time consuming operation, the risks for head and neck reconstruction include heart disease, multiple head and neck operations and pre-operative irradiation. The possible complications in head and neck reconstruction consist of flap failure resulted from arterial or venous insufficiency (thrombus), infection and fistula formation. The most important works at home while the patients go home are keeping oral hygiene, wound care and regular follow-up at our outpatient clinic.
