Introduction
Caduceus SpinScan Microarray Scanners (model no# HC-BS01 and HC-BS02) started off from enhanced optical pickup head (OPH), similar to what DVD player functions, for the reading and capturing of emitted fluorescence signals from microarrays.
Dual OPHs are in place for the guiding of green and red laser beams individually to scan the microarrays. The laser beams dynamically stay focused on the surface of microarrays based on the auto-focusing function using the focus error signal (FES). It also perfectly works with a voice coil motor (VCM) to control the movement of the objective lens along the z-direction on the servo signal of FES. The emitted fluorescence from the microarrays have been retrieved by confocal optics using a fiber with a diameter of 200 μm as an aperture located on the confocal point of light source, which significantly reduces the noise outside of the emission spot and increase the signal to noise ratio and dynamical range of the scanner.
Two sets of proprietary software of fluorescence image capturing (BioScan Control) and image analysis (BioImage Analyzer) are tagged along to scan the microarrays and to analyze the imaging data, respectively. The operation interface is user-friendly to operate with least trainings.
